1. Preparation for the Move
Before packing your belongings, make a moving schedule and do some planning. You might have an easier time moving if you set a packing schedule because you'll be able to:- Break up your daily packing goals into more minor, easier-to-complete chores. For instance, you might set a daily goal of packing one book box and another for kitchen supplies.
- Decide on a deadline for finishing all your packing. It should be a few days before your relocation date to provide you with some wiggle room in case something unexpected happens.
- Create room to adjust your packing process when necessary. You may need to change your daily packing objectives or allocate more time to a specific room if you are lagging.
- Schedule breaks to prevent burnout. Using a timer, you can specify set packing time intervals before taking a break.
- To prevent feeling overwhelmed, try to declutter your entire house room by room. It can make the procedure seem more bearable.
- Make a list of things you want to keep, donate, or sell. It might help you stay organized and avoid mistakenly throwing away anything you intend to save.
- Be honest with yourself while deciding what to keep and what to throw away. Consider whether you need or use the item. Alternatively, follow Marie Kondo's advice and ask yourself, Does this thing spark any joy? If not, it's probably time to let it go.
- Seek help. Decluttering may be an emotional and challenging undertaking. Therefore enlisting the help of friends or family members can be beneficial. You can also hire a professional organizer to assist you with the process.
2. Packing, Loading, and Unloading
After you have decluttered the items you no longer use, it is time to begin packing. Unless you are a packing expert or have the patience to pack everything yourself, now is the perfect time to hire a moving company. Moving firms provide a wide range of services, including packing and unpacking, loading and unloading, and even storage. But if you're up for a challenge, here are some pointers to make sure you don't waste too much time packing and that your belongings arrive in good condition in your new home:- Make sure you have the necessary packing materials, such as boxes, tape, and bubble wrap.
- Label each box with a description of its contents, such as books, kitchen utensils, or clothing, as you load it. You can use different coloured packaging labels for each room, like bedroom, kitchen, or living room. It will assist you and anyone helping you know exactly where each box should go.
- Pack fragile goods individually and carefully. Wrap them in bubble wrap or packing paper and store them apart from other objects to avoid damage during the relocation. You can use towels or garments for extra padding for fragile things.
- Pack boxes to the top and seal them with tape along the seam line to keep them closed firmly. It also prevents dust and grime from entering the box.
- Put the heaviest objects in the smallest boxes to make them easier to carry. It also keeps the boxes from shattering or becoming too heavy to lift. For example, you can pack clothing and linens in larger boxes.
